What's it all about?

Many ask this question, “What is life all about?” However, many people are moving very fast down the highway of life and never slow down and stop to search for the answer. We often allow the distractions of this life to be an attempt to fill a void that lies deep in our beings. This void is evident in our lack of contentment and happiness in life. Human nature leads us to the tendency to find our source of happiness in people, places, and things.

It is true that the entire created realm was intended to be enjoyed by people who God has made in His own image. However, the creation, in and of itself, can not fill the void that lies in the hearts of every human being. We cannot find lasting happiness in relationships with other people because they are imperfect and destined to let us down. We cannot find lasting happiness in things, because things are temporal; they are never enough and we always want more, but never can seem to be satisfied.

God has programmed our beings for eternity; therefore only He who is eternal can bring satisfaction to our souls. We cannot find fulfillment in places, which are our destinations or goals in life. This is true because no matter how hard we try or what we do, there will always be uncontrollable circumstances in life that can slow or even stop our journey toward our destination, whatever form or shape they might take……

The only certain destination that can be arrived at is the one that transcends the temporal and positions us for the eternal. That is the certainty that when we pass through this life we will enter a life that is far better. This place is described in the words of St. John, “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Rev. 21:4)

life The place of eternal heaven, which is outlined in the conclusion of God’s script for His-story can be arrived at in this life. It is this belief in a future heaven that secures our significance in this life. It is this belief in the future heaven that transforms our present and gives us courage to face and endure the trials of this life. It is this awesome belief in an awesome future that brings meaning and joy to our present.

The assurance that we will arrive at this destination has been secured by God through the person and work of His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ endured the full penalty for our sins. He lived a life without sin, yet endured all the heartaches and pains that are an effect of our sin condition. He rose again on the third day and conquered the sting of death, giving the hope of eternal life to all who would believe upon His name. (John 3:16)
